Client Overview
The Erie County Medical Center is the largest medical facility in the greater Buffalo area. They had a 12 year old CCTV Surveillance System that needed:
1. A more efficient, easily operable, organized, means of viewing and recording camera video scenes to increase operator accuracy and response time.
2. Quicker retrieval of information.
3. To provide more room in what was already a crowded equipment console.
4. Addition of video surveillance in corridors.
5. Upgrade some of the old outdoor camera sites.
6. A new fiber optic cable network to transmit video and control of cameras.
Analysis
Life Safety determined that a single matrix unit with 32 camera inputs, 4 monitor outputs and 3 control points along with system expansion of up to 128 camera inputs, 16 monitor outputs and 16 control points would replace the existing antiquated pan/tilt/zoom controller and assume from it and the existing multiplexer, control of all camera sites.
With the new system the operator(s) would be able to control all cameras in the system from a single keyboard and/or remote keyboards. All remote controlled camera sites would be equipped with a compatible receiver/driver unit. Determination of the proper cameras to be used in the corridors and to upgrade the old outdoor camera sites was made along with the design of the new fiber optic cable network.
Solution/Result
Life Safety replaced the existing camera control system and applicable equipment downsizing the equipment console and providing the equipment to meet their objective of having a more efficient, easily operable, organized, means of viewing and recording camera and video scenes to increase operator accuracy and response time along with faster retrieval of more information. Proper cameras were provided and installed in the corridors and outdoor camera sites were upgraded with transmission over fiber.
